Gorillas are one of the largest and most recognizable primates in the world. They are native to the forests of central and east Africa and are divided into two species: the Eastern gorilla and the Western gorilla. They are herbivores and primarily eat leaves, shoots, and fruits. Gorillas are highly intelligent and have complex social structures, living in groups led by a dominant male known as a silverback. Unfortunately, gorillas are considered endangered due to habitat loss and poaching. Many conservation efforts are in place to protect these magnificent animals, including eco-tourism, education, and the establishment of protected areas.
